Epson Perfection V200 Photo is a universal scanner aimed at a wide range of users, primarily intended for photographers.
In Epson Perfection V200 Photo, a rather expensive and advanced Matrix CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) technology is implemented, which determines the wide capabilities of the device. In the scanner, two paired matrices are installed, arranged in relation to each other in such a way as to provide an offset of one second of the area of the minimum scanned point. Thanks to this, the device has an increased depth of field and outputs significantly less noise in dark areas of the image. At the same time, it is “sharpened” not only for obtaining images of photographic quality, but also perfectly manifests itself in interaction with optical recognition systems for text documents. Special attention should be paid to the fact that thanks to the CCD technology, the scanner can “process” not only flat, but also three-dimensional, relief objects: for example, you can scan a cell phone, so that its image will be better than on most cameras. The key parameters of the Epson Perfection V200 Photo are quite impressive: the optical resolution of the scan is 4800 dpi at 48-bit color depth, that is, the scanner is able to recognize almost 300 trillion color shades. If this is not enough, by reducing the carriage step, the scanning accuracy can be brought to 9600 dpi, and in the interpolation mode, this value reaches 12,800 dpi. For most images and texts, the maximum resolution is 600×600 dpi, but this is not enough for images from slides and 35 mm film. For these purposes, a high optical resolution is required, as well as a special design that ensures accurate positioning of the original.
The thickness of the Epson Perfection V200 Photo is only 57 mm, and the weight is 2.6 kg, which is very, very good for an A4 scanner. At the same time, the areas of the base and the working area differ very slightly: 430×280 mm versus 297×216 mm. A special compartment is provided for storing the miniature slide set-top box: this is very convenient, because, firstly, while not in use, it does not take up additional space outside, and secondly-so there is less chance of losing it, and at the same time there is no need to store an additional box with accessories for the main device at home.
The scanner’s interface kit is small: it includes a power connector and a single USB 2.0 port for connecting to a PC. However, since this model is not designed for mobile operating conditions, it does not need anything else.
The case, made of a pleasant-to-touch plastic, has a classic black and silver scale: a very successful color scheme. The hinges of the 180-degree folding lid are designed in such a way that not only a sheet of paper can be placed under it, but also a three-dimensional object, up to 25 mm thick. On the front panel of the case, four angular keys are comfortably located: to turn on the device, scan to a PDF file, scan with subsequent output to print, and scan with sending the result by e-mail. For fine-tuning, a software interface is provided, but the function buttons allow you to minimize the time for scanning and reduce it to simple mechanical procedures.
