The hero of the article, the HP Color LaserJet 2600n printer, fully combines modern technologies of the color laser printing industry. It features a single-pass mechanism with the cartridges arranged horizontally on top of each other. The layout of the cartridges largely determines the appearance of the device: in terms of occupied area it does not exceed the dimensions of a monochrome printer, but it is one and a half to two times greater in height.
Paper intake is from the bottom cartridge, equipped with a mechanical fill indicator or through a slot with a customizable sheet width. The latter is needed when printing on heavy media. For large print volumes, you can install an additional 250-sheet cassette on the bottom of the printer. Prints are output to the top tray with the image facing down.
On the top edge of the front panel there is an LCD display of the integrated printer menu. You can use it to configure the device and perform diagnostics. The screen is especially important if the machine is connected through a network interface, because it allows setting the parameters of the remote connection without relying only on the installer’s capabilities. The menu navigation is done with four buttons on each side of the screen, the structure of the items is clear and unambiguous.
Almost the entire printing path is hidden under the front cover, hinged forward and downward.
It covers the cartridges, which are easily accessible for replacement, and there is a transport belt mechanism mounted directly on the cover that guides each sheet of paper along the image drum cartridges, ensuring they are accurately positioned and pressed down evenly. The image drum safety shutters hinge when the cover is closed; you can clearly see their location and the blue cartridge locking levers in the photo.
