HP offers a choice of three budget HP Officejet 4500 MFPs: the HP Officejet 4500 Wireless (CN547A), the regular HP Officejet 4500 Desktop (CM753A), and the network HP Officejet 4500 (CB867A) without additional words in the name.
The HP Officejet 4500 looks good. The claims arise only to the thickness of the plastic: from not strong pressings it sags noticeably. The developers’ decision to perform the scanner cover (all MFP variations) and the control panel (all MFP variations, except wireless) in glossy is questionable: it turned out marginal and impractical. The other surfaces have a matte finish, and a large part of the front panel is also ribbed. The unit is assembled with care: the clearances between the component parts are minimal, there are no play and creaks.

The button control panel is located on the left side of the MFP front, tilted, the angle of tilt is fixed. There are few buttons, most of them – a digital keyboard built-in fax. There is a monochrome LCD display: it simplifies the work with the fax, and also serves to display the menu, which is organized quite clearly, and therefore makes a pleasant impression. The backlight of the screen is green. MFP mode of standalone operation is not provided (not counting the fax, of course).

Receiving telescopic tray serves as a feed tray at the same time. This design decision is hardly justified: the penny saving is nothing compared to the inconvenience. The total capacity of the combined tray is 120 sheets. For paper of smaller than A4 size, there is a locking slide. The ADF tray (CN547A and CB867A models only) has no cover (unlike the majority of more expensive ADF models); its capacity is 20 sheets.

The connection interfaces are placed on the rear side of the MFP. In addition to the standard USB and connector for power cord and telephone connectors, network modification has an Ethernet jack. Also on the back side there is a significant recess, probably provided for the installation of a duplex. The duplex itself is not included in the complete set.

To summarize. The look of the HP Officejet 4500 is not a revolution in office design, but the MFP looks good and even stylish. I am pleased with the high quality of the assembly. What is disappointing is the thin plastic, the dirty surfaces and the completely inconvenient combined paper tray.
